Lice Treatment: Your 3 Steps To Get (AND STAY) Lice Free
Posted by aviaestamos on March 10, 2010
Lice treatment, in order to be effective, requires a 3-step approach. First, you need to treat the person with the lice infestation ( or the person with the lice ). Second, you want to treat the entire family. 3rd, you need to treat the household.
STEP 1: Treat The Lice Sufferer…First and Foremost!
If you're suffering from lice, you will probably begin by treating the lice they have with over the counter shampoos. These are most frequently not effective, which unfortunately, you'll shortly find out first hand. Lice have developed a resistance to these medications. Also, these shampoos contain pesticides ( YUCK ), so be particularly careful to apply the shampoo in the advocated manner. Take care to have a look at the age restrictions for these drugs as well ( they shouldn't be used on kids younger than 2 years old ). NOTE: don't use shampoo or conditioner on the hair after the lice treatment.
Then, be sure to check the hair. If you see head lice moving as energetically as they'd been before the medicine was applied, I'm sorry to say, it didn't work! At this point, most people visit the doctor to get a prescription lice treatment medication to annihilate the lice.
Once you have gotten rid of the lice, you might have to retreat the child after 7 days to be sure any nits that may have hatched are finished also. Checking the hair every couple of days or so is a good idea to keep a watch on things. NOTE: you should continue checking for about 3 weeks.
STEP 2: Treat the entire Family! Yup, it's that critical.
Check each member of the family carefully for lice. Remember, lice are HUMAN bugs, so they cannot live on pets. So yes, Fido is safe. It isn't critical to treat your pets. If any family members are found with lice, treat them in a similar manner that you treated the plagued child ( see step 1 above ).
It is also crucial to remember that the OTC lice treatment medicines are not to be used for folks with health limitations like allergies or pregnancy. Lice are simply spread thru human contact and so it is important that each family member is inspected and treated with a lice treatment – we do not need any re-infestations, do we? No we don't!
STEP 3: Now it's time to Treat The HOME!
Treating the house is equally as critical as treating each member of the family when you're combating lice. Take all clothing and bedding that have been influenced and wash them in extraordinarily hot water, at least 130 degrees! Ouch – but it's's required to destroy the little suckers.
All pillows and blankets that can not be washed should be either dry cleaned or put in plastic bags and sealed firmly. These bags should stay sealed for two weeks, giving any live lice sufficient time to die. Vacuum your rugs and carpets totally and often . It is also an excellent idea to vacuum any couches and chairs you will have also.
Combating lice often feels like an endless battle. You'll get discouraged and you will get irritated because it only takes one louse to re-infect your house -just one lousy louse!
Following these three lice-killing steps is imperative & part of any effective lice treatment. Breathe easy, your lice nightmare can be over soon!
